Sr. Database Administrator

Advantage Tech has a Sr. Database Administrator opening with their exciting client based out of Kansas City, MO

This Senior/Lead Level Database Administrator supports multiple complex, highly critical database environments with high availability demands.

The DBA will:

  • Perform capacity planning, workload modeling, and all necessary database maintenance tasks to ensure business applications have sufficient resources for near-term performance and long-term growth.
  • Acts as primary contact for dealing with challenging and complex issues related to database administration and performance.
  • Mentors and develops the rest of the Database Administration team and educates others on best practices.  
  • The individual will work closely with architects, infrastructure support, systems engineers and application support teams to ensure seamless and quality IT support for customers and alignment with client IT standards, controls and governance.


1.            Expert level knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, and 2014

2.            Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 and new functionality

3.            Expert knowledge with SQL Server configuration, including HA options, AlwaysOn, Log Shipping, Replication, cluster configuration

4.            Lead planning and executing version upgrades and patching

5.            Monitor SQL Server environments for availability and performance to ensure all relevant SLAs are being met with regard to Business availability

6.            Advanced knowledge in reading execution plans and offering optimization and tuning suggestions

7.            Advanced T-SQL knowledge

8.            Expert knowledge in standard maintenance tasks, including backup/restore, index defragmentation, statistics maintenance, database expanding/shrinking, etc.

9.            Expert knowledge in permissions configuration at all levels, including instance, database, object levels

10.         Expert knowledge of normalization and database design

11.         Lead database encryption technology initiatives

12.         Maintain up-to-date documentation of SQL environments

13.         Provide high quality support to IT Support and Help Desk team in troubleshooting issues related to database availability or performance

14.         Lead all phases of day-to-day Database Administration including; database policies, procedures, standards and supporting documentation, database design, process flow analysis, development, benchmark analysis, performance tuning, capacity planning and production implementation

15.         Ensure availability of all environment and swift and complete recovery of all production databases

16.         Prepare complex database queries, exports, imports, custom and canned reports to support department needs.

17.         Participate in the evaluation, and recommendation of appropriate hardware and software resources

18.         Responsible for testing and configuring new products and technologies.

19.         Assist in conducting employee performance appraisals, provide feedback, coaching, team building and training/education to team members

20.         Will be required to be on-call after hours and weekends on a rotating basis.

21.         May be required to work occasional off-shift hours to cover customer maintenance and on-site activities

22.         Perform other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science or an equivalent experience of at least 10 years of experience in a DBA role with at least 5 as a Lead or Senior role
  • 5 years experience with SSIS
  • 2 years experience with SSRS
  • 4 years of Data Warehouse experience
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines is essential
  • Experience in HealthCare is essential
