Field Technician

Advantage Tech is searching for a Field Technician to join their client’s team in Independence, Mo.

The Field Technician position is responsible for any hands-on and on-site related tasks involving the deployment of computer hardware, peripherals, and other computing devices. The Field Technician will troubleshoot problems, advise on the appropriate action, and respond to user requests in a timely manner. This position will be responsible for maintaining customers hardware and software. Provides technical support for end-users in a variety of areas including desktop support, asset inventory, AV & VTC troubleshooting, and network/systems administration. Consults with support teams, help desks, customers, and other technical staff in the resolution of problems, coordinates and performs operation and/or maintenance activities for networks/servers, identifies recurring problems and recommends steps to reduce the severity or frequency of problems. Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains an extensive variety of products and equipment. Deliver services and solutions in technical support, systems refresh, software integration, and operations support. Identifies, analyzes, and repairs product failures, orders, and replaces parts as needed. Recommends which products or services best fit the customers’ needs. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • 1+ year of experience in field service.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to bend, crawl, stoop and sit.
  • Able to lift and move 50 pounds of weight daily as needed.
  • Ladder climbing and work on elevated equipment. (Lift work, scaffolding)
  • Local travel or travel to assigned region/site 100% of the time.

  • Maintain working components through repair or replacement.
  • Ability to assist customers and staff with hardware and software challenges.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal calmly, positively, and professionally in tense or elevated situations.
  • Able to manage time effectively and work efficiently, both with and without direct supervision.
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent judgment skills to properly evaluate situations and immediately provide effective solutions.
  • Great attention to details, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; able to communicate technical information to non-technical users effectively.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a dependable vehicle with valid insurance.
  • Must have an updated working laptop computer.
  • Must have a basic understanding of electrical wiring and flow
  • Programming skills, preferred.
  • Good Customer Service Skills are essential.
  • Must be available to travel radius of 300 miles as needed.
  • Must have an availability of Monday-Friday and some potential weekend and evening hours.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Structured cabling and termination of cat 5-7, punch down into patch panel, fluking.

Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Assist with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of desktop computers, peripheral equipment, and software.
  • Respond to all service requests timely, keep customer fully updated, and ensure service call completions are documented accurately and with comprehensive details, as well as any parts / equipment used appropriately accounted for.
  • Effectively diagnose and troubleshoot malfunction of computer or network devices, sound equipment, and systems in operation at any or all client locations. relating to user error, faulty hardware, or software/server/network issues.
  • Ship and receive broken devices for repair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Interacts with network services, software systems engineering, and/or applications development to restore service and/or identify and correct core problems.
